New Years Goals
Two SMART goals I have for this spring semester is as follows: to get all A's and to spend more time to work and exercise, spending less time on the computer or on video games.
In order to get all A's, I need to pre-study things like Math and for English, I need to study some vocab each day and request help from teachers and friends make sure I didn't miss any instructions or assignments. I must also be organized, and I have to remind myself every time before I leave the house in the morning that I have all my homework and school supplies for the next day. This could mean that I need to wake up earlier to satisfy time to make sure. I should also include a checklist the night before to figure out what things I need to bring for the next day. I need to also plan to make it earlier to class, such that I make it at least five minutes earlier than the bell. I also must finish homework before doing games or using the computer. I would like to minimize the amount of interactions with the computer and have a piece of paper with me at all times to record any distractions I might get while using the computer. I also need to get my projects done before hand. This can be done with using a planner and a spreadsheet to measure the progress on a project. I need to also change my mindset that I can't resist the urge of getting distracted whilst working. I need to develop the habit of creating a list of distractions and thinking "not now, but later, it's the same amount of time".
In order to spend more time on work and exercise, with less time on the computer or video games, I need to create a loose schedule with enough time for reading, meditating, or organizing stuff. I need to believe in myself that I can finish my work without distractions, as we tend to get what we believe we will get. I need to find rewards for the amount of exercise I do or the amount of work I finish. For example, I can reward myself a dinner out after 30 days of exercise or 30 times of finishing homework before 10:30. I would like to meditate more to calm my racing mind to be "single-threaded", so I don't get distracted as much. I need to find someone who is similar to me in the lack of willpower to compete with, which could mean something like after working out after a certain amount of hours/running specific amount of miles will make the loser get a lunch for the winner or paying movie tickets for the two. I can also set 30 minute time recordings. I would have a thirty minute timer, such that I had to write what I was doing at the exact time it rings, then setting the next thirty minute timer. This way, I will be able to know how I spent my time by the end of the day.
