Unit 3 Reflection
The unit is about cells, their structure, their functions, and about photosynthesis and cellular respiration. The themes and essential understanding were the functions and things that the cell does in its process of basic life. The theme was essentially all about the functions and structures of the cell, such that one would know the composition of the cell and what they did. My strengths of the chapter were the chemical parts and how photosynthesis and cellular respiration. My weaknesses included the memorization of all the different parts of the cells and their functions. I got confused on which ones were which at first, but I now understand which ones are which. The topics that were difficult to understand were the different ones about NADHP or NADH and the electron transport chain. I still don't fully understand which form of these are the ones with energy and which one without.
I learned how, in detail, cell respiration and photosynthesis occurred. I learned the cell organelles, including the lysosome, the Golgi apparatus, and many others that I didn't previously know. I also learned a lot of new functions that I hadn't known about of the old cell organelles that I previously knew. I want to learn more about the exact process of every step of a cell's lifecycle. This includes since the time that a cell uses amino acids digested from food to build new proteins to create a new cell, to splitting the cell through mitosis, to cell apoptosis and cell death. I have unanswered problems about the individual parts of a cell lifecycle. Although I may know some parts of it in much detail, I still do not understand every point of it, and it bases my knowledge off nothing, and I have to take photosynthesis and protein production and things I do know as given, as I don't know the underlying facts.
I am planning to review my notes in my science notebook, as well as use some reading of the textbook. I am also planning to write a summary of my knowledge and pretend to "teach" it, therefore making me understand the knowledge in a more coherent way. I am going to also make flash cards for the different parts of photosynthesis and cellular respiration, as well as parts of the cell.
